Two case studies on academic writing aim at characterizing the profiles of students entering higher education through means other than National Access Competition. Considering Development Response as aggregating textual genre, texts order argument explanation/exposition were analyzed. study revealed globally results in 1 (entrance test), difficulties across whole set texts, specific problems group speaking varieties different from EP. Cross-cutting weaknesses identified macrostructure level, such inclusion counter-arguments elaboration adequate conclusion, well microstructure punctuation due to syntactic knowledge limited use contrastive causal connectors. This characterization entrance allows development intentional interventions practices scientific areas.
